CC Young Is Celebrating Its Centennial Anniversary, Marking 100 Years Of Serving Seniors In Our Community
CC Young, a premier, non-profit senior living community located near White Rock Lake in Dallas, is celebrating its Centennial this year, a milestone that will honor CC Young’s legacy and achievement since receiving its charter as a home for the elderly in 1922. CC Young’s mission continues with the same mission and ministry as its founder, Reverend Christopher Conley Young, envisioned: serving others and fostering premier environments where every life at every age is valued and enriched.
Since its beginning, CC Young has maintained this deep calling. CC Young was conceived in 1917 when Reverend C. C. Young began searching for a way to create “a home for aged women.” By fall 1921, Reverend Young had raised $75,000 to establish a home for the elderly which was named for him posthumously as CC Young Memorial Home. Since its official founding date in 1922, CC Young has grown and expanded into a community where residents are welcomed and embraced by their neighbors and enjoy comfortable, worry-free living and peace of mind.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone anniversary as a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors in our community for the last 100 years,” said Russell Crews, President and CEO of CC Young. “We are tremendously grateful to those who have helped us carry our mission forward through the donation of their time, talents, service and financial support. We look forward to continuing to provide quality care for seniors for generations to come.”
While the essence of CC Young’s mission is the same, the scope of the offerings and the campus have changed dramatically over the decades. The first permanent building opened in 1927 in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. In 1960, approximately 20 acres were acquired on what is now the CC Young campus. Over time, the campus grew to include various buildings providing independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care services on campus. Additionally, Home Healthcare, Hospice and Private Duty Solutions were developed to serve both on and off-campus needs. In late 2019, The Vista, a 10-level, $84-million integrated transitional living center, opened. The 325,000-square-foot healthcare center is a forward-thinking concept in the senior living industry and includes multiple functional residential spaces designed for group activities, hobbies and personal time, while large assisted living apartments are uniquely designed to be more independent and foster a sense of autonomy. Each floor of this new residential community is adaptable for Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Rehabilitation and has established CC Young as a market leader. CC Young also recently announced a new, remarkably designed independent living community, The Terraces. The proposed six-story expansion overlooks White Rock Lake and is scheduled to break ground in 2023.
“CC Young takes care of their residents in ways that are not seen in other senior living communities,” CC Young Foundation Board Member Jill Goldberg said. “[CC Young] is the dawning of a new era.”
Throughout its legacy of rich history and achievement, CC Young’s campus and programs have had a tremendous impact on individuals, families, partner organizations, and the local community. CC Young has been recognized multiple times for its thoughtful and progressive approach to senior care. With the opening of The Vista, CC Young has again exhibited excellence in its innovative, flexible design. To date, The Vista has received seven architectural and design awards including the AIA Design for Aging Review Award representing conscientious design solutions; Gold Nugget Award of Merit; Aurora Best Service Enriched Senior Center; Senior Housing News Award for post-acute care design; and Healthcare Design Award for providing private, dignified, safe and comfortable environments for Residents and Care Partners to thrive.
To celebrate this significant 100-year anniversary, CC Young will highlight the last 100 years with activities and events in every level of care throughout 2022. Special events are planned for the spring and summer beginning with a multi-generational, Centennial-themed parade in April 2022. The Parade will weave through CC Young’s beautiful 20-acre campus with residents and their families, as well as members of Rev. Young’s family to commemorate this special event. Additional special events will be held for residents and donors, including Roaring Twenties-themed events in June on the CC Young campus.
